An example of a record label is young money entertainment. This record label specialise in rap. Artists they have signed are Lil Wayne, Drake and Nicki Minaj. It was founded in 2005, it already have seven albums which reached number one in the USA. The label has sign over 25 artists. Young money entertainment is a company controlled by Universal music group so
it has a solid backing.
Another example of a record label is Aftermath. The record label specialise in
hip hop and rap. The producer of the record label is Dr Dre. It was founded in 1996 and is located in the USA. Current artists at the record label are Eminem and Kendrick Lamar. The labels acts over the years have earned RIAA certificates of platinum or higher on 16 of its 20 released albums.

1st song
One of our classroom tasks was to listen to two very different songs in terms of tone and style. We had to simply draw whatever came into our head as we listened.
The first song was in the heavy metal genre, it wasn't very pleasant and as a group we depicted common stereotypes with this genre. Two of our group members had the same sort of idea, and man with long flowing hair playing a guitar. With one of the drawing of the man standing on flaming skulls. One of the other drawings was of brutal violence and the other of "death". This goes to show that we followed the common connotations of this genre.

The second song was very slow in pace and sad in tone. This was also an unpleasant song like the first, but in a very different way, where the first had depictions of violence and death, the connotations of the second song was sadness and depression. As a group we followed our natural instinct of mind and followed these connotations and came up with cliche scenario's of a depressed man. We had someone playing a piano in isolation, a man standing on top of a bridge with suicide on his mind; and a man drinking alone at a bar drowning his sorrows.
Radio Chart and MTV awards research
The Indie Genre is one that doesn't feature much in the charts as that is mostly dominated by POP music (as you can see from the picture below.) Indie songs don't enter the charts that much but when they do they do quite well, for example The 1975's Chocolate achieved 19th in the main charts but 2nd in the Indie Charts. The Arctic Monkeys AM album achieved the top spot in the album charts, with 'Do I wanna know' reaching 11th in the singles charts.
In this years MTV awards there has been no Indie bands or artists that have been nominated for any of the awards. Although there is 15 categories, there is none that are for the indie genre as they focus more on POP, Rock and HIP-HOP as these are the more popular genres.

We had feedback from other people in our class of what went well with our rough cuts and even better if.

Peer feedback on pitch
We have learnt a lot from our peer's feedback of our pitch, firstly we have plenty of positives to be proud of. What our peers mainly picked upon was how we had a great use of examples in picture format to help them visualise what we see, and at the same time made sure we mentioned all aspects that were required for the pitch. We were also told we had a confident speech, we feel this is a great positive to have because it shows that we know what we are talking about, and have a solid plan in place; we will make sure to keep this confident vibe throughout the course of the project and on any other videos we have to talk in.
However we also received constructive criticism so that we can improve in the future, the most common negative being that we may have spoke too quickly at times, therefore we will take extra care to make sure this wont happen again in future videos. We also learnt that we should try to explain our ideas more, rather then just simply say what they are.
Pitch
After we completed our pitch, we received feedback from our audience, who happened to be our classmates.
We were told what went well, and also what we could do better. The main underlying problem we understood was that sometimes during our pitch we spoke to quickly; or not clear enough. However you do not actually have to speak during the creation of the music video as it is all lip synced, nonetheless we shall put in good effort to make sure our mouth movements are clear and in time with our chosen song.
Another piece of feedback we received from our critics was more having more depth and a deeper understanding and explanation of our lyrics, which is especially important as our song has focus on narrative.
A3 pitch
This is our pitch planned on an A3 sheet, it contains the details related to our music video,
such as mise-en-scene, camera angles, target audience etc. This planned sheet helped us
to film our video pitch.
Music stills analysis
The first three images are showing the music genre of Performance. Performance based videos are the band or person playing the instruments or signing. They are generally done by artists who care more about the music than making the video, hence they do something simple like them performing. These three photos would fit into the performance genre as the guy is playing the guitar and that is all he is focused on and there is nothing that will distract us from the song. Each of the photos has been edited. This first image has been edited so that it has been desaturated so the colour has been drained and it is just grey. The second image has been edited so that is split screen and the third so that it contains text.
The next three images are to show the video genre of Narrative. Videos from this genre tell a story which can be about anything. This would look like an argument between two people and as the video continues the more of the story will be told. This genre is normally done by artist who find the topic emotive or personal so they use them to reflect their side of the story. Each of the photos has been edited. The third set of images are to fit int he video genre of Image. The image genre is used by artist who are trying to redevelop themselves such as Miley Cyrus going from a Disney signer to what she is now. It is also used by artist in the rap or R&B genre who try and show they are 'gangsters' or 'hard'. These images fit in with the genre of Image as we can see him making Gang signs.
